English Skills Speaking Club
The City Planners

A fast-paced, task-based speaking session. Take an empty plot of land in a crowded city and negotiate what to build to keep the angry residents happy.

A creative online English speaking activity focused on teamwork, persuasion, and real-world communication skills.

Join the Mission

From empty lot to final blueprint

1

The Empty Plot

Join the main room. The teacher reveals the city's current problems and the demands of the local residents.

2

The Blueprint

Jump into a breakout room. Negotiate with your partner to design the space and decide how it will help the city.

3

The City Pitch

Return to the main room. Student A presents the physical design; Student B explains the benefits to the community.

4

The Public Debate

Defend your project! The rest of the class acts as the angry city council trying to find flaws in your design.

Practise real-world English communication skills

Our traditional English speaking clubs focus on conversation around a topic. These sessions help you share opinions, react to other people’s ideas, and build confidence speaking English in a relaxed environment.

The SKILLS Speaking Club introduces a new challenge. Instead of simply discussing a topic, you must use English to complete a task. That means thinking quickly, working with another person, and building an idea together before presenting it to the group.

This format combines speaking practice with important communication skills such as teamwork, persuasion, problem solving, and presentation. These are the same skills used in international workplaces, universities, and global companies where English is the common language.

If you want to move beyond basic conversation and develop stronger communication skills, this session is the perfect complement to our regular online English speaking practice.
