Hi, I'm Luke, your native English-speaking host. If you've ever been to one of our speaking clubs, you've probably spoken directly with me. For more than 10 years, I have been teaching English, helping adults boost their speaking skills, and getting them to feel comfortable and confident in real conversations.
Speaking clubs have always interested me because they are real. I believe they are essential for language learning, and every school, company, and university should add them to their traditional teaching methods. My CELTA-qualified speaking clubs are designed not only to get you speaking, but also to get you thinking, reasoning, and sharing your opinion. We use Zoom for all speaking clubs. You’ll receive a Zoom link by email after you register. You can join from your computer, tablet, or phone.
How many people will be on the call?
FREE speaking clubs are kept small (usually 4–8 people) so everyone can speak. Courses and weekend clubs are limited to just 4 people. Four is the magic number – it’s the minimum for a club to run.
Are the FREE English speaking clubs really free?
Yes! FREE English speaking clubs are completely free – no payment and no trial trick. You can also join paid speaking clubs, small-group speaking courses, and individual conversation lessons if you want more practice.
How can I pay for speaking courses or paid clubs?
All payments are made online. For speaking courses, click “book my place” on the course page. For weekend speaking clubs, you’ll receive a payment link after you sign up.
What level of English do I need?
Most speaking clubs are for B1 (Intermediate) and above. That means you can already communicate in everyday situations and now want to improve fluency, accuracy, and confidence.
What timezone are the times in?
All times are in London time. If you’re not sure what time that is where you live, you can check here.
I signed up but haven’t received an email. What should I do?
First, check your spam or junk folder. Make sure you entered the correct email address, topic, date, and time on the form. Please don’t write “any” for the topic – only choose clubs that exist on the schedule.
Why does it say CLOSED next to the online English speaking club I want to join?
If you see CLOSED, it means the club is full or registration is not open yet. We open registration for FREE conversation clubs gradually so that everyone has a fair chance to join.
Do I have to use my webcam?
No, you don’t have to use your webcam. Each club uses a presentation or questions on the screen, so the focus is on the topic and your speaking, not your camera.
Can I arrange an English speaking club for my company?
Yes. We organise speaking clubs for companies so employees can practise English in a professional context. You can read more here: Company Speaking Club.
Do you offer individual conversation lessons?
Yes. It’s possible to have 1:1 lessons or lessons for you and a friend. You can read more here: Individual Conversation Lessons.
Can I sign up for more than one speaking club?
You can join as many paid speaking clubs as you like, but you can only join one FREE speaking club per week. This is to give everyone the chance to attend a free online English conversation club.
Only one person signed up for my paid club. Will it still go ahead?
There needs to be a minimum of two people for paid speaking clubs to run. If you have already paid and the club doesn’t run, you will be refunded or offered the chance to transfer to another club. FREE speaking clubs will run even if only one person joins.
